Long ago, when the world was overrun by darkness, the tiny Picori came from the sky and brought to the hero of men a sword and a golden light, with great courage and wisdom the hero drove out the darkness and saved the world. Now darkness has returned once again and a new hero must arise.
You are Link (what a surprise!), a young boy who lived with his grandfather living a happy life, but all that changed when an evil dude with immense power called Vaati, broke the Picori Blade which was sealing the darkness in a big chest and while doing so, Vaati turned Princess Zelda into stone, thus once again the world is in grave danger, so with the Picori Blade broken and Princess Zelda turned into stone, mankind needs again the wisdom of the Picori, who by the way, only appear before children, but don't loose hope because Link is still a child.
So here goes our little hero facing all the danger all by himself, but wait, this time he's not alone, along the way Link saves a weird green looking creature named Ezlo, who was also cursed by Vaati when he learns that Link is on a quest to break Princess Zelda's curse he decides to tag along and since he moves really slow he jumps onto Link's head and disguised himself as a green cap.Ezlo will be very useful to Link, he'll give some good advices to Link once in a while, although most of the time he'll just state the obvious, talk is not the only ability that Ezlo has, he'll also help Link reach places that Link couldn't reach on his own and last the ability to change Link into Picori size which is something like the size of an ant, this feature brings new puzzles and new ways to fight bosses.
Gameplay is similar to the first Zelda game, it uses a top down 2D view perspective, Link will travel across Hyrule in search of the four elements that he needs to combine with the new sword forged by the Picori in order to create the new Picori Blade and release Princess Zelda from her cursed fate. Has normally happens in Zelda games these key items are kept in dungeons swarmed with monsters and with puzzles which Link has to solve in order to get the element. In every dungeon exists an item that will allow Link to solve new puzzles and will help him to defeat the dungeon's boss.Puzzles in dungeons are pretty much straight forward, you'll rarely be stuck in a dungeon, the real problem is getting inside this dungeons, at first you'll receive detailed information on how to get to a dungeon but later in the game you'll have to figure it out yourself.
Visually the game is stunning, the best there is on the Game boy Advance, the game has good variation of environments and nice animations. You'll travel through places with live colors like forests or like he town of Hyrule to dark and spooky dungeons.
The game's audio is fantastic, music never gets irritating and its so catchy that simply won't get out of your head, as for sounds you'll hear a lot of "YA!" from Link and other similar sounds which are nicely done.
There is no voice acting, so after the character emit some strange noise a text box will follow, which is not a bod thing since the dialogs are very well written and are easy to read and to understand, even for those that don't have English has a primary language.Although it may seem like more of the same it really isn't, the plot is original and interesting with many unexpected twists, there are many new puzzles to make you sweat and the ability to change sizes brings great innovation to the series.
It may be a reused formula, but its a winning formula that mixed with this new features makes this game one of the best if not the best on the Game boy Advance.
